Eat. Pray. Love.. My Way.

I am happy!

However, some people... lemme rephrase.. people who claim to be my friends, don't see that. Instead, they look down on me because I'm a minority. Last time, having a degree was a minority. In this day and age, getting a college degree is the norm. I know that my decision to get married and starting a family at an early age has been frowned upon.

That's not their decision, maybe. But it is mine. So why can't they just respect that?

Nowadays, degrees are a dime a dozen. So you have a degree. Does it prepare you for the heartache in your life when you face problems in your marriage? Does it prepare you for the times your children get sick and can't sleep the whole night? Does it prepare you from the hurt you suffer from the loss of your loved ones? I don't think so.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm NOT saying that a college degree is not important. It IS! And yes, when the time is right, I will get mine. I'm sure of that. Whether I go back to school or register myself for one of those many online degrees out there, it is one of my goals in life. I just don't think I need a college degree to be genuinely happy.

The thing is, I know what I want from life. If I'm not worried, why should you be? Some people look at me and think I'm making a big mistake in life. 7 years of marriage and they still think that. Meanwhile, I look at them and feel sorry for them because they are much more concerned about what I'm doing than where they are heading themselves. Crazy, I know.. but true.

So this is a message for those people who are so doggone hypocritically concerned. Don't worry about me (as if you've ever been genuinely worried). I'm fine. I'm happy. There's no need for you to parade your life in front of me thinking I'm envious of you. That's just laughable!! My advice: grow up. Get a life. I actually have one.

Fake friends are like glass: they easily shatter and are thrown away..

Note: This is written not out of anger.. a little annoyance, perhaps! But just so you know, I am as happy as a clam!! Why are clams happy you think? Because they shut the rest of the world out... and don't have to deal with the crazies! Hehehehe.

Peace out guys! Much love!!

OMG that's so true, Shem! I've a degree but am not using it now. In fact I cannot say that I'm proud of having one. It's nothing compared to what I'm doing now, which I LOVE.

As to why those people bother about you and me, beats me! I guess it's human nature for wanting to compare and wanting to feel more superior than others. :)

I have been going through something quite similiar but yet opposite. I have been in and out of college for the past several years. Each time I started, I had to give it up for some "family" emergency. I have not children or husband. I am currently taking online and 1 in-class paralegal class. It makes me happy. Yet, my so-called family and friends are disappointed because I am not married or with children. I want that some day but I am 30 years old and old enough to know what is in my best interest!

i agree with everybody here Shemah. People can have many degrees and still not be happy. Just like the saying money does not buy happiness. Happiness comes from within. Excellent post my friend. :)

A degree is important but it is up to the individual whether to pursue or not. For me I loved studying and the degree at the end of my studies was def an anticipated bonus! :* :* :* :*
